The story of the bradpaisley Signature B/PW begins with Paisley’s acoustic guitar mastery and his well-deserved super star status. His decision to partner with a shop as small as Santa Cruz Guitar Company came from his desire to be associated with quality and responsibility above all else. He wanted his name on a handmade instrument that his fans and guitar aficionados alike could trust. Richard Hoover worked closely with Paisley to design a personalized, custom dreadnought based on SCGC’s Pre-War Dreadnought Model. The Paisley signature model honors Paisley’s dedication to the sustainability of treasured tone woods, built with his preferred customizations for playability, tone and look in mind.
The main differentiating features on the B/PW are: Bear Claw German Spruce top instead of Sitka Spruce, 1-3/4” nut width instead of 1-11/16, Ivoroid Body binding instead of thin black, no side purfle instead of violin purfle, zipper back strip instead of thin black line, Herringbone top border instead of violin purfle, enlarged soundhole, Custom Cowboy Hat peghead inlay, SCGC Logo at the 5th fret. We often say that pre-made nuts just don’t work. Every guitar is different - even if they’re made with CNC machines, they are hand sanded, which changes the shape significantly, the fret heights are different, and the nut shelves are at varying levels. We can work with these pre-made nuts, but oftentimes it’s the same amount of work to make one from scratch.
This Tusq 12-string nut was brought in, which required significant shaping just to fit the guitar, and then the strings were massively high. We aim for .01mm clearance over the first fret when fretted at the third, and this one was off the charts, making it impossible to play. We completely remade the nut, but it would have been so much simpler had we just made one from a bone blank.
